Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called for the immediate release of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state chairman Sunday Bisi, whom he says was arrested in Ilesa on Saturday during the state's governorship election.

Adeleke alleged that the arrest was connected to efforts to restrict political supporters from monitoring the collation of results. The reported arrest and the governor's allegations have not been independently confirmed by Superior News.

Adeleke made the demand in a statement issued on Saturday, August 15, 2026, and signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

According to the governor's account, Bisi was arrested at his residence in Ilesa after returning from voting. Adeleke said he was informed that the PDP chairman had been taken to an undisclosed location and that no reason had been provided for the alleged arrest.

The governor described the incident as an attempt to intimidate his political supporters during the ongoing Osun governorship election.

He also alleged that some security personnel were being used to prevent political actors from monitoring the collation of election results.

Adeleke claimed the alleged arrests were part of a wider attempt to interfere with the collation process.

He said:
“This latest sweep on my supporters ... is part of a broader plan to give the APC unhindered access to change results at collation centres and upturn our wins at the poll.”

The governor did not provide publicly verifiable evidence in the statement establishing that results were being changed or that the alleged arrest was part of such a plan.

He called for Bisi and other people he described as political prisoners to be released.

Adeleke also argued that voters should be allowed to freely determine the outcome of the election without intimidation or coercion.
