Married couples have been given a different perspective on a subject that has long sparked debate in religious circles, after Apostle Joshua Aghasedo of Powerline Church said using sex toys within marriage does not amount to sin.

Aghasedo made the comments while speaking to his congregation in a video shared on the church's YouTube channel on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

He compared sex toys with everyday equipment such as cars and phones, arguing that they can serve as aids to married couples seeking to improve intimacy.

“I have never used a sex toy,” he said, while explaining that technology has produced devices that can assist couples in their intimate life.

The pastor stressed that his comments applied specifically to married couples. He said he had previously recommended a sex toy to a married couple after considering their circumstances, adding that the intention was to support the marriage rather than encourage infidelity.

His position, however, came with a clear distinction. Aghasedo said using such a device individually amounted to masturbation, which he described as fornication within his religious interpretation.

The subject remains controversial among Christian leaders, with opinions differing over whether sexual aids are appropriate within marriage. A previous discussion reported by The Guardian Nigeria also showed that Christian leaders have held contrasting views on the issue.

For now, Aghasedo's comments are best understood as his personal religious interpretation, rather than a universal Christian position.
