Two former Super Eagles defenders are taking on new responsibilities outside the football pitch, with their latest roles putting them directly into Nigeria’s political mobilisation space.
The City Boy Movement has announced the appointment of former Super Eagles players Shehu Abdullahi and Kenneth Omeruo to sports-related positions in its national leadership structure.
The announcement was made on Thursday, October 1, by Bashir Ahmad, the movement’s National Director of Media Monitoring and Rapid Response and a member of its National Working Committee.

According to Ahmad, Abdullahi was appointed National Deputy Director of Sports, while Omeruo was named National Assistant Director of Sports.
“At the City Boy Movement, we are delighted to welcome Shehu Abdullahi and Kenneth Omeruo to the movement,” Ahmad said.
Both players have represented Nigeria at major international tournaments. Abdullahi featured for the Super Eagles at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, while Omeruo played at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.
Their new positions, however, are political rather than football appointments. The City Boy Movement is a political support group involved in mobilisation around President Bola Tinubu and the 2027 political cycle.

A September report had also identified Abdullahi as holding a Deputy Director of Sports position within the movement, providing additional support for his reported appointment. The specific Omeruo appointment has been reported by Punch but was not independently confirmed by another major outlet in the checks conducted by Superior News.
For two players known for representing Nigeria on the football pitch, their next public roles will take them into a very different arena.
