At the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards in Dallas, Texas, Nigerian artistes dominated several categories. On the same day, Poco Lee’s scheduled UK court proceedings produced a new timeline for his case, with his next plea hearing now fixed for February 2027.

Poco Lee’s UK case moves into 2027
While Nigerian music stars were receiving international recognition, attention also remained on the ongoing legal case involving Nigerian dancer and entertainer Iweh Pascal Odinaka, popularly known as Poco Lee, in the United Kingdom.
Poco Lee was expected to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court in London on September 15, 2026, for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
According to reports on Tuesday, however, the scheduled proceeding could not move forward because the charge sheet was unavailable, meaning no plea was entered.
The next plea and trial preparation hearing has now been fixed for February 8, 2027, while the trial is scheduled to begin on March 8, 2027. ICIR and other reports independently confirmed the new dates.
PUNCH reported that Poco Lee did not appear in court during Tuesday’s proceeding because the charge sheet was unavailable. The report also said the court had earlier granted him bail on September 11 following his first appearance.
The case involves serious sexual-offence allegations. Earlier court information reported by Premium Times identified the charges as two counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and two counts of assault by penetration. These are allegations before the court and have not been proven.
Poco Lee remains presumed innocent unless and until a court determines otherwise.
A career that rose through Nigerian street culture
Poco Lee became widely known through viral dance performances, particularly during the rise of the Zanku dance movement. His work brought him collaborations and performances alongside some of Nigeria’s biggest entertainers.

He later expanded into music and entertainment, releasing songs including YARD and Otilo, while also working as a dancer, hype man and MC.
His UK case has generated considerable discussion online, but Nigerian and UK authorities have continued to urge that the legal process be allowed to run its course. Earlier reports also warned against attaching unverified allegations to the case.
Two very different headlines from Nigeria’s entertainment scene
The AFRIMMA results underline the growing international visibility of Nigerian music and entertainment, with Davido, Tems, Phyno, Ruger, Victony and several others receiving recognition on a continental stage.
At the same time, the Poco Lee proceedings show why major developments involving public figures can quickly attract intense attention while still requiring careful reporting as the legal process continues.
For Nigerian entertainment, September 2026 has brought both celebration on an international awards stage and a closely watched court case whose next major dates are now set for 2027.
