Emiliano Martinez has chosen Chelsea despite interest from other clubs, with the Argentine goalkeeper keen to work under manager Xabi Alonso.

The move brings a World Cup-winning goalkeeper to Stamford Bridge as Chelsea look to strengthen their goalkeeping options after a difficult start to the Premier League season.

Martinez has completed his move from Aston Villa to Chelsea in a deal reported to be worth £7.5 million. The 33-year-old had been seeking a move away from Villa and was also linked with Juventus earlier in the transfer window.

According to The Guardian, Martinez made Chelsea his preferred destination because he wanted the opportunity to play under Alonso. Villa had already brought in Japan international Zion Suzuki from Parma, helping clear the way for Martinez's departure.

Speaking after completing the move, Martinez said joining Chelsea was an easy decision for him and his family.

“I want to be successful here. I’m someone who wants to win at everything I do and I want to bring that here to this football club because it’s a football club that wins titles, so I think it’s a good match.”

Martinez has signed a three-year contract with Chelsea and is expected to challenge for the starting goalkeeper position, with Robert Sanchez facing increased competition.

For Martinez, the move is another major chapter in a career that has taken him from Arsenal's bench to World Cup glory and now to one of England's biggest clubs.

The Chelsea move is complete — and Martinez is ready for a new challenge under Alonso.
