Nigeria's position in world football remains unchanged, but the race among Africa's top teams has taken a new turn. Egypt's impressive World Cup performance has pushed the Super Eagles down the continental rankings.

Nigeria's Super Eagles have remained 26th in the latest FIFA Men's World Rankings, according to FIFA's latest update. However, the three-time African champions have slipped to fourth in Africa after Egypt climbed above them following a strong showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The change means Nigeria now trails Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt in Africa's rankings. Morocco continue to lead the continent after reaching the World Cup quarter-finals, while Egypt's run to the Round of 16 earned the Pharaohs enough ranking points to move ahead of the Super Eagles.

At the top of the global rankings, Spain have returned to world No. 1 after defeating Argentina to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Argentina dropped to second, with France, England, and Brazil completing the world's top five.

Nigeria's ranking remained unchanged because the Super Eagles have not played a competitive match since their June international friendly against Portugal. FIFA is expected to release its next men's world rankings on October 7, 2026.

The latest rankings show how every international match can reshape the race to become Africa's top football nation.
