Guglielmo Vicario is heading back to Italy after three seasons in England, with Juventus giving the Tottenham goalkeeper a fresh opportunity in Serie A.

The 29-year-old Italy international has joined Juventus on a one-year loan with an option to make the move permanent, the two clubs confirmed on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

Vicario is expected to compete for — and potentially take over — the starting goalkeeper role at Juventus, replacing Michele Di Gregorio as the club prepares for a season in which it will compete in the Europa League after missing out on Champions League qualification.

For Vicario, the transfer represents a return to the league where he established himself before moving to England.

He joined Tottenham from Empoli in 2023 and went on to make 117 appearances, keeping 29 clean sheets. He was also part of the Tottenham side that won the Europa League in 2025.

His time in north London became more difficult last season, however, with Antonin Kinsky taking over as Tottenham's first-choice goalkeeper towards the latter part of the campaign.

Juventus have now offered Vicario a chance to rebuild his momentum at one of Italy's biggest clubs.

Announcing the transfer, Juventus wrote:

“There’s another new Bianconero in Turin. Welcome to Juventus, Guglielmo!”

The loan agreement gives Juventus the option to turn the deal into a permanent transfer if Vicario impresses during the season.

For Tottenham, the move allows the club to part with a goalkeeper who had fallen down the pecking order while retaining flexibility over his future.

For Juventus, it provides an experienced Serie A goalkeeper without requiring an immediate permanent commitment.

Vicario previously played for Udinese, Venezia, Perugia, Cagliari and Empoli before making the move to the Premier League.

Now back in Italy at 29, his challenge is straightforward: establish himself again at the highest level and convince Juventus that he deserves to stay beyond the loan.

For Vicario, Turin could be the beginning of a very important second chapter.
