The conflict between Israel and Iran appears to be entering a more aggressive phase. Israeli military officials say the campaign has shifted strategy after a wave of airstrikes targeting key locations in Tehran. Yet while Israel describes the strikes as a decisive escalation, many details remain contested or unverified.
The Israeli military announced that its operations against Iran have moved into what it calls a “new stage” of the war. According to Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) officials, dozens of aircraft were deployed in a large-scale operation targeting strategic facilities in the Iranian capital.
Israeli authorities say around 50 fighter jets dropped approximately 100 munitions during the operation, striking an underground bunker believed to be linked to Iran’s leadership network. Israeli officials claim the facility was originally built for Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, and was still being used by senior government and military figures.
However, Iranian authorities have not publicly confirmed the damage, and independent verification of the bunker’s destruction remains limited. Several international outlets reporting the strikes note that much of the available information currently comes from Israeli military briefings.
The regional impact is already being felt beyond Iran’s borders. Israel has intensified operations against Hezbollah positions in southern Beirut, areas Israel believes are being used for military coordination.
According to the United Nations, nearly 100,000 residents in parts of Lebanon have been displaced as bombardments continue. Some Syrian refugees living in Lebanon have reportedly crossed back into Syria to escape the escalating violence.
The humanitarian implications are becoming increasingly serious as evacuation orders spread across densely populated districts.
Meanwhile, the United States signaled that the conflict may not ease soon. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth warned that military actions against Iran could “increase significantly” if the situation continues to escalate.
The statement suggests growing alignment between Washington and Israeli security strategy, even as diplomats warn that the expanding conflict could destabilize the broader Middle East.
The deeper concern among analysts is not just the scale of the latest strikes, but what they signal about the trajectory of the war. Direct attacks on central facilities in Tehran mark a major shift from earlier confrontations that were often carried out through proxies or covert operations.
If the escalation continues, the risk of wider regional involvement — including militant groups and neighboring states — could grow rapidly.
