For many Nigerians, knowing whether the food and everyday products they buy are genuine can be difficult. Nollywood actress Jemima Osunde has now drawn attention to the concern, asking how consumers can completely protect themselves from unsafe products.

Osunde raised the issue in a recent social media post, expressing concern over alleged adulteration and counterfeiting of products commonly used by Nigerians.

She questioned how ordinary consumers could avoid such products completely, asking: “How is someone supposed to 100% avoid consuming these things?”

Her comments come after she previously spoke about becoming ill after consuming food provided on a movie set in Ibadan. Osunde said she contracted Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) and later developed gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which she said affected her health for years.

The actress's latest comments have renewed attention on food safety and the challenge consumers face when trying to identify genuine and safe products. Her earlier illness remains her personal account, and there is no independent evidence establishing that the food caused her H. pylori infection.

For many Nigerians, the concern is simple: how can consumers be sure that what they are buying is safe?
