“I Can’t Cope” – Kunle Afolayan Cries Out Over ₦11m Monthly Diesel Cost
Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has expressed frustration over the rising cost of diesel, revealing that his businesses now spend about ₦11 million every four to five weeks to keep operations running.
The Nollywood director made the disclosure in a video shared on his Instagram page, where he described the situation as unsustainable for business owners.
According to Afolayan, the high cost of diesel is putting serious pressure on the operations of his KAP Film Village and Resort, a popular film production and tourism facility.
He explained that although the resort has installed solar power systems, the facility still relies heavily on diesel generators to maintain steady electricity.
Afolayan noted that the price of diesel has climbed to about ₦1,500 per litre, a significant increase from previous prices, making it difficult for his businesses to cope with the cost.
The filmmaker further revealed that his companies have been forced to purchase diesel on credit to sustain operations.
“I’ve been sad because I can’t cope with the ₦1,500 per litre of diesel. At the KAP Village, we spend about ₦11 million in four to five weeks on diesel. Even with solar power, we still spend that much,” he said.
He added that payments for the fuel are often made gradually whenever funds become available, and in some cases it takes up to two months to clear outstanding debts before more diesel can be purchased on credit.
Afolayan appealed for support, stressing that the rising cost of energy is becoming increasingly difficult for many Nigerian businesses to manage.
His concerns come amid fluctuating fuel prices in Nigeria, which have continued to affect transportation, electricity generation, and the cost of running businesses across the country.
