Manchester City are entering a new era.

The Premier League giants have officially appointed Enzo Maresca as their new manager, ending weeks of speculation over who would succeed Pep Guardiola.

City confirmed on Monday that the 46-year-old Italian has signed a three-year contract, with the club reportedly paying Chelsea more than £17 million in compensation to secure his services.

Maresca is no stranger to the Etihad Stadium. He previously worked as Guardiola's assistant during Manchester City's historic treble-winning season in 2023 and also guided the club's Elite Development Squad to the Premier League 2 title in the 2020/21 campaign.

For City fans, the appointment brings both excitement and curiosity. Guardiola's departure marks the end of one of the most successful periods in the club's history, and supporters will now be watching closely to see if Maresca can continue that winning culture.

Speaking after his appointment, Maresca said:

"City is an incredibly well-run football club. Everything they do is innovative, planned and purposeful. For a manager, that is a dream situation. It provides the consistency I need to do my job effectively."

He added:

"This will be my third spell here. I know this club, I know the demands and I know the expectations."

The former assistant returns to Manchester with a clear understanding of the club's philosophy and the enormous expectations that come with leading one of Europe's biggest football teams.

A new chapter has begun at Manchester City, and all eyes will now be on whether Maresca can step out of Guardiola's shadow and write his own success story.
