Kylian Mbappé has admitted he does not see himself representing France into his 40s like Cristiano Ronaldo, despite praising the Portuguese star for maintaining his fitness and performance at the highest level.
The France captain made the comments during an interview with German newspaper BILD, after being asked whether he could continue playing for his country until the age of 41, following Ronaldo's remarkable international longevity.
Mbappé responded with a smile: “France would never let me play until I’m 41!”
The 27-year-old forward then acknowledged the physical and mental discipline that has allowed Ronaldo to continue playing at an elite level well into his 40s.

“Cristiano shows that if you’re in good physical and mental shape, you can play at this high level for a long time,” Mbappé said.
However, Mbappé made it clear that he does not expect to follow exactly the same path with the French national team.
“In my case, I don’t see it happening,” he told BILD.
Mbappé and Ronaldo's different international timelines
Ronaldo's career has become an unusual example of longevity in international football. The Portugal captain has continued representing his country into his 40s, while Mbappé, despite being significantly younger, does not currently envisage remaining with France for that long.
Mbappé's comments were specifically about his future with the French national team. They should not be interpreted as an announcement that he plans to retire from professional club football before turning 41.
The France captain has already established himself as one of the leading figures in world football and remains a key player for the national side.

His comments also underline the different career paths followed by two generations of football stars: Ronaldo has extended his international career deep into his 40s, while Mbappé says he does not expect to do the same.
For now, Ronaldo's longevity remains an exceptional benchmark, while Mbappé appears to have a different view of how long he wants his international career to continue.
For football fans, the question is no longer simply how long a player can stay at the top — but how long they actually want to remain there.
