A livestream that began like any other ended in tragedy.Fans who tuned in to watch TikTok creator César Gastélum were left in shock after gunfire interrupted the broadcast in northern Mexico.
Mexican TikTok influencer César Gastélum, known for his comedy videos and more than 500,000 followers, was shot dead while livestreaming outside a fast-food restaurant in Culiacán, Sinaloa State, on Tuesday evening.
Authorities said Gastélum was with two friends in the Tres Ríos district when two men arrived on a motorcycle. One of the attackers reportedly opened fire before fleeing the scene. Emergency responders and forensic investigators later secured the area and launched an investigation.
The killing has renewed concerns over the safety of public figures and content creators in parts of Mexico, where violence linked to organised crime has continued to affect communities. Officials have not said whether Gastélum had received threats before the attack, and no arrests had been announced at the time of reporting.
Gastélum frequently shared videos of his daily life, travels and comedy skits on social media. His death comes as violence between rival factions of the Sinaloa cartel continues to escalate in the region.
