Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator representing Kogi Central, has strongly criticised the recent violent attacks in parts of Kwara State, describing the incident as disturbing and unacceptable.

The attack occurred on Tuesday when suspected terrorists stormed Nuku and Woro communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, killing at least 75 people and setting several homes on fire.

Reacting to the incident on Wednesday, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said the victims were targeted for refusing to submit to extremist demands.

In a statement released on Thursday, Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and extended her sympathies to the affected families and communities.

She warned that the ongoing violence poses a serious danger to Nigeria’s peace and stability, calling on authorities at all levels of government to respond with urgency and firmness.
According to her, the repeated killing of innocent citizens is alarming and cannot be tolerated, noting that many families have been thrown into mourning by what she described as senseless acts of violence.

The senator stressed that safeguarding lives and ensuring justice must remain a fundamental duty of government, adding that the protection of citizens should never be compromised.
She urged both federal and state governments to go beyond public statements and adopt coordinated, practical strategies to tackle growing insecurity across the country.

Akpoti-Uduaghan also called for immediate, transparent investigations into the Kwara attacks, saying those responsible must be identified and prosecuted to restore public trust.
“Our communities deserve to live in safety and without fear, and government must rise to this responsibility,” she said.

She reaffirmed her commitment to using her position in the National Assembly to push for stronger security policies and interventions nationwide, noting that meaningful national development is impossible when citizens live under constant threat.
Following the attack, President Bola Tinubu ordered the deployment of an army battalion to the affected local government area.
