A disturbing case that shocked New York commuters has now reached its conclusion in court.

More than a year after the incident, a man has been sentenced to prison for sexually abusing the body of a passenger who had died aboard a subway train.

Authorities said 44-year-old Felix Rojas was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to charges linked to the April 2025 incident on a Manhattan subway train.

Prosecutors said the victim, Jorge Gonzalez, a 37-year-old father, had died after becoming unresponsive while riding an R train. Surveillance footage allegedly showed Rojas approaching the victim and later searching through his pockets.

The case drew widespread attention because of its disturbing nature and because investigators relied heavily on surveillance footage released to the public. Authorities said Rojas later surrendered after recognizing himself in images circulated during the investigation.

Following his prison term, the court ordered that he remain under supervised release for 15 years.

Family members described Gonzalez as a hardworking father who spent years supporting relatives through construction and service jobs in the United States.
