Nigerian football has entered another tense moment as the NFF rejects a reported FIFA letter over alleged government interference. The denial came on Tuesday as Nigerian football officials met FIFA President Gianni Infantino in Switzerland.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said the letter circulating in some media reports, which allegedly demanded clarification over the resignation of former NFF officials, was fake.

The controversy comes after the resignation of NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau and members of his executive committee. The leadership changes have triggered fresh calls for reforms in the administration of Nigerian football.

In a statement shared on its X account, the NFF said: “The NFF has debunked news of a ‘letter’ circulating in sections of the media as being from world football governing body, FIFA. It is totally fake.”

Meanwhile, a Nigerian delegation led by National Sports Commission Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director-General Bukola Olopade met FIFA President Gianni Infantino in Zurich on Tuesday. Former NFF president and ex-FIFA Council member Amaju Pinnick also attended.

The meeting reportedly focused on the restructuring of Nigerian football, recent leadership changes and the next steps for the sport.
