Rodri is taking his iconic number with him to Barcelona — but only after a change involving Fermín López.
The Spain midfielder is set to complete his move from Manchester City to Barcelona after the clubs reached an agreement for his transfer.
Rodri is expected to sign a four-year contract running until June 2030, according to reports. The deal is understood to be worth around £65.4 million.
Now attention has turned to his Barcelona shirt number. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Rodri requested the No. 16 shirt during discussions with Fermín López.
“Fermín, set to switch to number 7 so Rodri will maintain his iconic 16.”
Fermín is therefore expected to move to No. 7, clearing the No. 16 shirt for Barcelona's incoming midfielder.
Rodri was not included in Manchester City's squad for Sunday's 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal as his move to Barcelona moved closer to completion.
A new club, a familiar number — Rodri's Barcelona chapter is about to begin.
