Turkey has expressed condolences to Nigeria following the deadly attacks in the Worro and Nuku communities of Kwara State, which claimed the lives of dozens on Tuesday.

According to Rauf Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, 75 residents were killed during the assault by suspected terrorists. Reports indicate that the victims, predominantly Muslims, were targeted for rejecting a radical Islamic ideology promoted by the attackers.

In response to the tragedy, President Bola Tinubu ordered the deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area on Wednesday. He condemned the assailants, describing them as “heartless” for targeting civilians in their campaign of terror.

On Thursday, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives. “We strongly condemn this brutal attack and extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Nigeria,” the statement said.
Türkiye affirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria in combating terrorism.

Last week, President Tinubu visited Turkey for a state visit, during which Nigeria and Turkey signed nine agreements to strengthen bilateral relations, including one focused on defence cooperation.
