A dramatic night of UEFA Champions League football unfolded at Anfield as Liverpool FC produced a dominant performance to defeat Galatasaray SK 4-0 in the Round of 16 second leg, sealing their place in the quarter-finals.

However, the game was overshadowed by an injury scare involving Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.

The Super Eagles star started the match for the Turkish champions but was forced off at half-time after suffering what appeared to be a fracture in his arm following a collision during the first half. Despite the discomfort, Osimhen bravely continued playing until the interval before being substituted.

German winger Leroy Sané replaced the striker for the second half as Galatasaray attempted to respond.
At the time Osimhen left the pitch, Liverpool had already taken control of the tie. Midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring with a powerful strike from outside the penalty area, giving the English side the momentum they needed.

Galatasaray had travelled to England with a slim advantage after winning the first leg 1-0 in Turkey, but Liverpool’s relentless attacking display completely turned the contest around. The Premier League giants added three more goals after the break to secure a comprehensive victory and eliminate the Turkish champions.

The result means Liverpool advance to the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition, where they will face French giants Paris Saint‑Germain in what promises to be one of the most exciting ties of the next round.

Also in the Champions League, several other European heavyweights also secured their places in the quarter-finals. FC Barcelona produced the most emphatic result of the night, crushing Newcastle United 7-2 to advance comfortably.

German champions Bayern Munich also progressed after defeating Atalanta BC 4-1, while Atlético Madrid edged past Tottenham Hotspur on aggregate despite losing the second leg 3-2.

Attention will now shift to the quarter-final stage, where Europe’s biggest clubs will battle for a place in the semi-finals and continue their pursuit of Champions League glory.

For Nigerian fans, however, concern will remain over the condition of Osimhen as they await updates on the striker’s injury after his painful night at Anfield.
