Millions of Nigerian football fans are still struggling to accept one painful reality — the Super Eagles will not be at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has openly expressed the frustration many supporters feel, saying Nigerians are unhappy with the national team's failure to qualify for the tournament.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike addressed former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo, who was among the dignitaries at the event.

According to the minister, it is painful to watch countries with smaller football profiles compete at the World Cup while Nigeria remains absent despite having many talented players in top leagues around the world.

"But before I leave, we have congratulated one of our stars, Joseph Yobo. But let me use this medium through you to tell the Super Eagles we are not happy," Wike said.

He added that he spends hours watching the World Cup and sees nations many Nigerians never expected to qualify, while Nigeria, with several players performing abroad, failed to make the tournament.

Addressing Yobo directly, he said: "Go and tell them we are not happy."

The Super Eagles missed out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup after failing to progress from their qualifying campaign and later losing to Congo on penalties in the playoffs.

For many Nigerians, the absence of the country's national team from football's biggest stage remains a major disappointment and a painful reminder of missed opportunities.

Football brings Nigerians together like few things can, and many fans are still waiting for the Super Eagles to give them something to celebrate again.
