A viral clash between Burna Boy and DJ Tunez at a popular Lagos event has exploded into one of the biggest controversies in Afrobeats in recent memory — and in the middle of it all, Wizkid has taken aim at Burna Boy with unusually sharp public ridicule.
The fracas reportedly unfolded on Monday at Obi’s House, a well‑known weekly Afrobeats night in Lagos, where videos shared widely online appear to show a physical confrontation between Burna Boy and DJ Tunez, who has been a long‑time collaborator and official DJ for Wizkid. In footage gaining massive views, Tunez is seen amid a chaotic brawl, reportedly outnumbered by Burna Boy’s team when the situation escalated.
Burna Boy’s camp has not issued a formal statement on the exact cause of the confrontation, though some social media accounts linked it to a dispute over which music was being played — a claim that has not been officially confirmed.
In the days following the incident, the Nigerian DJ Association (NDJ) announced a temporary ban on all of Burna Boy’s songs from its members’ playlists across Nigeria and in the diaspora, saying it would remain in place “until further notice” while it investigates the clash and urges DJs to uphold respect and professionalism within the entertainment space.
But the backlash did not stop there.
In a rare and highly direct online reaction, Wizkid weighed in on the situation with a post on X that appeared to mock Burna Boy’s actions. In the message, Wizkid denounced the way DJ Tunez was confronted, alluding to forces brought against his DJ in what he described as an unjust encounter — a notable public rebuke from one of the genre’s biggest stars.
The unfolding drama took another twist when a video circulating on social media showed Burna Boy dancing and playfully altering lyrics to “Money Constant,” a track featuring DJ Tunez, to include a line implying that Ogbafia — Tunez’s nickname among fans — was “on the ground,” a jab referencing the footage of the DJ in the brawl.
Fans on social media have been deeply divided, with some defending Burna Boy’s reaction as humorous and others siding with DJ Tunez and Wizkid, condemning what they see as unnecessary aggression and industry disrespect.
As of now, neither Burna Boy nor his official management have released a detailed response to the Nigerian DJ Association’s ban or to the social media comments from Wizkid. The situation remains under investigation by industry stakeholders, and the broader Afrobeats community is watching closely as reactions continue to unfold.
