Political tensions in Osun State have intensified after an attack on a local opposition figure drew condemnation from Afrobeats star Davido, who warned against the growing use of violence in political contests. Asimiyu Ajibola, popularly known as Baba Isila and chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government Area, reportedly survived an armed attack on Wednesday night in Osogbo, Osun State.

According to accounts circulating on social media and later amplified by Davido, suspected gunmen allegedly opened fire on a blue Toyota Corolla carrying Ajibola and several associates around 9:50 p.m. near the Osogbo Community Bank axis of the MDS area.

The attack reportedly triggered panic among residents in the vicinity. Ajibola was said to have sustained injuries and was rushed to a teaching hospital for medical treatment.

Reacting publicly on Thursday, Davido condemned the incident and urged political actors to reject violence.

“Regardless of our political differences, everyone must make sure they are not contributing to insecurity in our nation,” the singer wrote.

“The attack on the Chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government by political hoodlums must be condemned and rejected by all.

“If APC is sure they are popular, let’s settle this with ballot papers, not guns or weapons.”

The comments have attracted widespread attention because Davido's uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is expected to seek re-election in the August 2026 Osun governorship election.
