The Kano State Government has approved more than ₦3 billion for the expansion and rehabilitation of roads around Singer Market, aiming to improve accessibility and stimulate business activities.
The announcement was made in a statement on Thursday by Governor Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, following the Governor’s visit to the market to console traders whose shops were recently destroyed by fire.
Governor Yusuf expressed deep concern over the losses and reassured victims of the state government’s support. He instructed that the expansion and repair of roads within and surrounding the market be carried out without delay.
“The project, estimated at around ₦3 billion, will cover the key roads providing access to the market,” the statement said.
In addition, the Governor unveiled a ₦100 million relief package to assist traders affected by the fire, calling it a gesture to ease the burden of their losses. He also pledged to install solar lighting as part of a broader initiative to modernise the state’s major markets.
Contractors handling the roadworks have been directed to mobilise and begin work within ten days.
Market leaders and elders expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for his timely visit and interventions, describing the support as both compassionate and encouraging.
