Students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), are currently grappling with persistent water supply disruptions across several hostels, forcing many to queue for long hours or seek alternative sources outside the campus.
The situation, which has affected daily routines and raised concerns about hygiene, has left students frustrated as access to basic amenities becomes increasingly difficult.
According to observations gathered from affected hostels, students now line up with buckets and containers whenever water becomes available, often competing for limited supply. In some cases, others have resorted to purchasing water from vendors outside the university premises.
“We spend a lot of time just trying to get water. Sometimes you wake up early hoping it will flow, but nothing happens,” a student residing in one of the affected hostels said.
Another student noted that the situation has added financial pressure, as buying water regularly was not part of their planned expenses for the semester.
Beyond inconvenience, students have expressed concerns about sanitation and health risks, especially in densely populated hostels where steady water supply is essential for proper hygiene.
As complaints grow louder, many students are calling on the university management to urgently address the situation and restore consistent water supply across hostels.
At the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the university authorities regarding the cause of the disruption or when normal supply will resume.
